Today Hard Boiled Vampire Killers (HBVK), was released to the public in two variations, the Signed leather-bound Deluxe Thirteen Hardcover w/ slipcase, and the Signed Limited Hardcover. I purchased the Signed Limited Hardcover, as the official release of the trade paperback for Hard Boiled Vampire Killers will not happen until the end of the year, possibly to late for Christmas gifts this year. In this post I'm going to lay on you why I am so very stoked to receive my copy of HBVK.

Hard Boiled Vampire Killers Book Cover

I've been following Hard Boiled Jim through his blog His writing style just entertains the hell out of me. I read every word of his posts just like when I discovered HP Lovecraft and Clive Barker when I was about 16 years old. To hell with choose your own adventures, here were some real amazing stories.

Jim Gavin's Hard Boiled Vampire Killers, Will It Shred My Mind?

I have a feeling, based upon Jim's writing in his blog that HBVK is going to blow me out of the water with what I've come to expect in a fantasy book, just like the masters of the craft did to me back in the day. Here's a little excerpt from his blog to give you a sample of his writing style, and perhaps it will help you understand why I'm so excited.

"And since your momma is reading this (she saw a special on Oprah about kids being turned gay by the Internet), don't be like me. I'm not a role model. Drinking will stunt your growth, so be sure to wait until you're at least halfway through your first year in college so that you can build up some grades before you crack open that Boone's Farm and roll down that sweet raspberry-flavored booze highway to God knows where." -- Hard Boiled Jim Gavin, The Only Hell My Momma Ever Raised.

Then of course here is a little something more relevant to Hard Boiled Vampire Killers from Jim's blog.

"I have instructed my publisher to include as part of my advance press kit one adult diaper and a blister pack of generic diazepam, so that they can prepare for their bowels loosening and their heart exploding due to the extreme level of awesomeness of my manuscript. Monocles are sure to be dropping in those dark-paneled publishing houses of New York City and microwave burritos exploding and left to rot like empty cicada shells in the grimy breakrooms of the horror magazine offices because the pwnage will be overwhelming." -- Hard Boiled Jim Gavin, The Only Hell My Momma Ever Raised.

Online Reviews of Hard Boiled Vampire Killers

As if reading samples of Hard Boiled Jim's writing isn't enough to get you stoked about HBVK, then here are some quotes about HBVK from people who received the advanced press kit:

"Hard Boiled Vampire Killers" is a rip-roaring, gun-slinging, ass kicking, Kung Fu, vampire and ghost extravaganza that does not disappoint and is a welcome addition to the genre. If you are tired of romantic, wimpy, depressing sparkly vampires look no further than Jim Gavin's exceptional "Hard Boiled Vampire Killers" to get your fill of vampires that are actually might just be the most fun I have had reading a book this year." -- Peter Schwotzer, Famous Monsters of Filmland

"Hard Boiled Vampire Killers" is about alliances formed under duress, and freaks and geeks uniting for a lofty purpose. Jim Gavin's spin on the material possesses spunk and Stamina in its verbal vigor, and fun fantastical frays... -- Sheila Merritt, Hellnotes

"Pulp is alive and well in the heart and fingertips of Jim Gavin, With HBVK, Gavin comes out swinging, delivering a superior first novel. Explosive, demanding, and very rewarding." -- Andersen Prunty, author of Morning is Dead

"Jim Gavin's Hard Boiled Vampire Killers is a welcome change from everything I have come to expect from the modern vampire story. It was also a bloody good time!" -- Brian Knight from the introduction of Hard Boiled Vampire Killers

"Of all the young writers I've read recently, Jim Gavin has my favorite narrative voice. It's fresh, witty, biting, and moves with a dizzying speed that engage me like few others. His work is gritty and visceral, hearkening back to the detective novels of the 40's and 50's. I highly recommend his work to anyone who loves the power and majesty of well-crafted language." -- D.A. Adams, author of The Brotherhood of Dwarves series

I've Ordered The Signed Limited Hardcover Copy Of Hard Boiled Vampire Killers

So I've ordered my Signed Limited Hardcover copy of HBVK for $40, and they threw in free shipping. Not bad considering a trade paperback will run you about $18 from Dark Regions press.

HBVK is on the way, and when the book arrives, I'm sure I'll devour it a speeds faster than light, and be able to tell you about the actual book.
