Buzzwords, while there are millions of people who insist on using them, maybe because they think it gives them an "out of the box" aura, can actually hurt their chances when a potential employer comes a knocking. LinkedIn has some advice to fix this problem and gives us the 10 most over used buzzwords.

Most Overused LinkedIn Profile Buzzwords

The top 10 overused terms in the United States, according to LinkedIn's analysis of 85 million profiles, are:

  1. Extensive experience
  2. Innovative
  3. Motivated
  4. Results-oriented
  5. Dynamic
  6. Proven track record
  7. Team player
  8. Fast-paced
  9. Problem solver
  10. Entrepreneurial

LinkedIn Buzzword Replacement Suggestion

One suggestion from LinkedIn is to replace buzzwords with actual comments about your experience.

LinkedIn says, "Phrases like 'extensive experience' and 'proven track record' can appear empty to a potential employer and may do more harm than good when you include them in your profile or resume. If you’re using any of these 10 terms, wipe them out. Instead, note that you have eight to ten years of experience or that you increased sales by 300 percent. Include meaningful phrases that apply specifically to highlights you've achieved in your career."

LinkedIn has lots of more helpful hits for job seekers.
